One Movie, Two Best Supporting Actresses
I spent hours trying to figure out a way to make this piece for The Toronto Film Scene about The Artist or Hugo or silent movies, in general. Turns out, it’s tougher than you think. Then I noticed two different actresses are nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category for the same movie. It also turns out that this happens with shocking regularity. (Way more than two dudes going head to head for Best Supporting Actor, by the way). Then it turns out some really fine movies have dual actress nomination, and voila a list of 5 cool movies for which this has happened. Check it out.
Sharp-eyed Oscar nomination watchers might have noticed that The Help’s Jessica Chastain and Octavia Spencer both snagged a nod in the Best Supporting Actress category. While the possibility of a red carpet catfight might spice up an otherwise dull awards telecast, Chastain and Spencer will no doubt comport themselves with the same gracious dignity that 28 other supporting actress dual nominees have shown throughout history.
