Film Friday | Weekly Roundup

Hey there friends and neighbors… It’s me, Pretty Clever Film Gal. Did you think I had run off to Mexico with a pool boy named Pablo? While that is a tempting proposition, I’ve been here in sunny Toronto, locked away in the blogging garret working on the new and improved Pretty Clever Films. Which is a lot of work, oh boy! Even aside from the design and what not, there’s a lot of frustratingly cryptic stuff about domains, and transfers, and transferring domains, and every step takes 2-200 days. Since when does the interwebs need days to do anything? But I digress… suffice it to say, big stuff is going down and in the meantime it’s a really bad call to update here because then I also have to update on the new site and blah blah blah. I promise – it will be worth the wait!

All that said – there is NO WAY I would not scour the interwebs so you, my dear reader, don’t have to. Hopefully by this time next week we’ll be rocking and rolling on the new Pretty Clever Films, but in the meantime I bring you the best the web had to offer this week and I’m going all out – now with 50% more links! Happy reading and happy viewing!

Could it be that Pretty Clever Film Gal is nursing another cold, waking up all sneezy, and stuffy, and scratchy? I’ve already put in the cold-time this season, so I call bull on that. Fortunately, it’s Friday which means I have a couple of days of rest, fluids, and nourishing movies ahead of me. A black and white movie is just what the doctor ordered. And, since it’s Friday, it’s also time for the Weekly Roundup where I scour the best of the interwebs so you don’t have to. Happy reading and happy viewing!

So Pretty Clever Film Gal wakes up this morning, rubs the sleep from her eyes, and what does she see? Snow! Honest to goodness snow! This might not seem strange, this being Canada and all. But I’ve been in the true north for a couple of years now, and have had my snow expectations unmet. Will it stick? Will I get to sled, ice skate on a pond, and build a snow man? Well, I’m not actually going to do any of those things. But we all know, snow days are awesome days for wrapping up in a warm blanket and watching a movie! Yay for snow days! But while the snow still gently falls, I will go about my appointed rounds across the interwebs and bring you the best and neatest of the week. Happy sledding, reading, and viewing!

Film Friday | Weekly Roundup

Wow, it’s been both a short, too-fast week and a really long one. Things have been pretty quiet on the blog, but Pretty Clever Film Gal has some awesome things in the works. And let me just say, friends and neighbors, Toronto is a great place to hang your hat if you love classic movies. I know what you’re thinking… New York? Yes, New York has an endless supply of everything, including classic films. But the problem is, it’s an endless supply and it’s easy to get choice paralysis and not partake at all. I’m sorry, New York, but it’s Toronto that offers choices like Monday’s Toronto Theatre Organ Society‘s screening of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in a castle, with Wurlitzer organ accompaniment. That’s pretty priceless. But I digress… as always, Pretty Clever Film Gal has scoured the interwebs for you, so let’s get to it. Happy reading and happy viewing!

My Hitchcock Birds Barbie Arrives!

This is mine! Mine, mine, mine. Is it all that I dreamed it would be. Yes. Yes, it is… and much more.

Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds Black Label Barbie

Honestly, now that it’s here, I’m not even sure what to do with it.

Do I have to leave it in the box forever?

Can I take it out and play with it?

Can I make the birds peck her on the head?

Should I fashion some sort of chain and wear it around my neck?

Should I just carry it around with me wherever I go and force others to agree that it’s the most amazing Barbie doll ever?

If you’re out and about in Toronto and you see a grown woman with a Barbie in her lap… be sure to say hello!
